ASTM D-130
Detection of Copper Corrosion From Petroleum Products By The Copper Strip Tarnish Test
The gasoline specification ASTM D-4814 states that gasoline must pass the ASTM D-130 test with a corrosion rating of "1b" or better before it can be sold. The addition of sweetening additives to fuels which do not meet this specification can often improve the corrosion rating. Addtivie treat rates of 25 to 1000ppm are common.
This method (ASTM D-130) can be used to determine whether fuel is corrosive toward copper and copper alloys. If corrosive, the fuel will tend to degrade rapidly in storage systems containing copper, bronze or brass components.
